The canon in antiquity and pre-modern times As with several cultura erudita e cultura popular aspects of our civilization, learned and canon are ancient concepts, irst put into action by our Greek and Roman predecessors and upon which modernity set up new understand- ings, as we shall see.
Greeks were the irst in our Western tradition to be concerned with setting up learning as a cultural value.
