The Jesus Dynasty | Book by James D. Tabor | Official Publisher Page | Simon & Schuster

After Jesus was crucified by the Romans, his brother James -- the jesus dynasty "Beloved Disciple" -- took over leadership of the Jesus dynasty. James, like John and Jesus before him, saw himself as a faithful Jew.

None of them believed that their movement was a new religion. It was Paul who transformed Jesus and his message through his ministry to the Gentiles. Breaking with James and the followers of Jesus in Jerusalem, Paul preached a message based on his own revelations, which would become Christianity.

In the jesus dynasty, his approach is nothing new in the academic world. He correctly notes that the DSS gives evidence of the jesus dynasty expectation of two Messiahs.

Based on the expectation of two Messiahs, Tabor suggested that Jesus and John the Baptist fit the bill — John being the senior prophet-Messiah, and Jesus being the junior priest-Messiah.

Indeed, the Qumran community was a marginal community in decline after the death of its founder, the Teacher of Righteousness. In general, Tabor adopts a skeptical view the jesus dynasty the biblical texts.

After all, such a dastardly deed could not have been overlooked by such a thorough historian like Flavius Josephus. Not the jesus dynasty, the episode could have been too small and too localized to catch the media headlines or get recorded by Josephus.

Tabor allegedly found the jesus dynasty tomb of Pantera in Germany. The problem is Adolf Deissmann, whom Tabor relies as his primary source, had earlier concluded that Pantera died in the middle of the first century.

Given a record of his long career in the Roman army, further calculations would indicate that Pantera was probably posted to Palestine a full ten years the jesus dynasty the birth of Jesus sometime BC.

To his credit, Tabor senses the untenability of his position and backs off. In his official website he protests the jesus dynasty the media has sensationalized his suggestion.

Book Review: The Jesus Dynasty by James Tabor

It chronicles the travels, researches, and thought processes of the author, trying to draw the reader along to the finish line of his conclusion. I prefer to have the case set forth in the jesus dynasty vacuum, built up and defended on its own objective merits.

I will simply the jesus dynasty aside the archaeological side of his case, since I find it weakens his case rather than strengthening it. What is his basic claim, and upon what evidence does it rest?

He believes that Jesus was a would-be king with genuine Davidic credentials, which he inherited from his mother Mary. Jesus was actually the son of Mary and of Pandera, perhaps even a particular Tyrian Roman legionary named Adbes Pantera whose tombstone Tabor visited in Germany.

Review - James D. Tabor, The Jesus Dynasty reviewed by Robert M. Price

Tabor produces many supporting statements from the Bible and New Testament apocryphawhich escaped excision by the later Church fathersintent on selling the Pauline message at the expense of Jesus' dynastic one. The argument produces a portrait of a real man in a tumultuous time, who really believed that his actions would accomplish the end of the Roman occupation and a return of the Jewish kingdom.

The book also speculates about whether the Talpiot Tomb the jesus dynasty Jerusalem was the tomb of Jesus or his relatives, and whether Tiberius Julius Abdes Panteraa Roman soldier, was Jesus' father, the jesus dynasty it reaches no definitive conclusions about either hypothesis.
